Grade Brief

H-11 is a 5% chromium hot work tool steel with excellent impact toughness and good resistance to thermal fatigue cracking. Compared to H13, it contains less vanadium, which results in higher toughness but somewhat reduced wear resistance and temper resistance. It is a deep-hardening, air-hardening steel with minimal size change during heat treatment. H11 performs well under conditions involving thermal shock and water cooling.

Conclusion

H-11 hot work tool steel offers an exceptional balance of toughness, resistance to cracking, and dimensional stability during heat treatment. Its lower vanadium content compared to H13 provides higher impact toughness, making it especially suitable for demanding hot work applications where resistance to thermal shock and gross cracking is critical. With reliable performance in die casting, forging, extrusion, and hot shear operations, H11 is a proven choice for tooling that requires maximum durability under severe service conditions.
