Grade Brief

H10 is a chromium-based hot work tool steel belonging to the AISI H-series. It combines good toughness, thermal fatigue resistance, and resistance to softening at elevated temperatures. Compared to tungsten hot work steels, H10 can achieve higher hardness after heat treatment and can be safely water-cooled in service, making it suitable for demanding hot work tooling applications.

Conclusion

H10 tool steel is a well-rounded chromium-based hot work steel and has a good combination of toughness, resistance to thermal fatigue, and stability at high temperatures. Its resistance to water cooling of the tools, as well as excellent hardness of tungsten-based hot work steels, makes it suitable for difficult work like forging dies, die castings, extrusion, and hot shear tooling. H10 has discovered a niche in the industry with dependable mechanical capacity and thermal resistance that makes it one of the preferred tooling solutions that require robust and high-performance in hot work.
