Grade Brief
H13 is the most widely used hot work tool steel, belonging to the Cr-Mo-V alloy family. It offers high wear resistance, toughness, and excellent hot strength, making it suitable for both hot and cold work applications. Due to its high chromium content, H13 maintains hardness at elevated temperatures and resists thermal fatigue, heat cracking, and shock loading.
It is commonly supplied in the annealed condition, but pre-hardened H13 (460–500 BHN) is also available for specific applications.
Key Features
- Excellent resistance to thermal shock and heat checking.
- High toughness and ductility even in hot conditions.
- Good red hardness and resistance to softening at high temperatures.
- Superior wear and abrasion resistance.
- Consistent machinability with uniform hardness during processing.
- Can withstand rapid cooling cycles.
