EN9 is a medium carbon steel with a carbon content typically between 0.50–0.60%. It is usually supplied in the as-rolled condition and is available in various product forms such as rounds, flats, hexagons, and squares. EN9 is widely used in engineering applications where higher strength and wear resistance than mild steel are required.
EN9 is a cost-effective medium carbon steel with good strength, toughness, and wear resistance. With surface hardening treatments, it becomes highly suitable for heavy wear components like gears, cams, and sprockets.

EN9 steel is a medium-carbon steel that offers a good balance of strength, wear resistance, and affordability. Its richer carbon content than that of mild steel gives it greater hardness and toughness, and hence is suitable for heavy-duty engineering work. EN9 is the material of choice in gears, cams, sprockets, shafts, and other stressed and fricted components when it is surface-hardened with flame or induction hardening to provide superior wear resistance without compromising a tough core.
